It’s finally here! It’s the day of your senior pictures! You have been planning your outfits, thinking about locations and poses, and all the things for weeks! Now, to help your day run smoothly and keep the stress minimal I have created the perfect check list for the day of your senior photos.
Shave: I know this seems a little weird, but my camera will pick up even the smallest amount of stubble. Guys, shave your face, unless of course you want the scruffy look. Girls, shave your legs and underarms, especially if you will be wearing tank tops or sleeveless tops.
Drink plenty of water. You should be doing this the week leading up to your session to help with radiant skin, but definitely make sure you drink plenty of water the day of your session. You want to be well hydrated and ready to rock your session!
Put on some chapstick or lip balm first thing in the morning. There is nothing worse in pictures than chapped lips and chapped lips are not something that is photoshopped out later.
EAT! Please don’t skip out on eating on the day of your session. You will need energy to get through the long day. Think healthy, fresh foods.
Make sure you have the following when you arrive for hair and makeup on session day:
All clothes, ironed and wrinkle free hanging on hangers.
Have all jewelry in plastics bags and marked according to which outfit they go with. It works out really well if you can hang a ziplock bag with each set of jewelry on the hanger with the outfit it goes with.
Shoes for each outfit. Make sure you also have the correct type of socks for each pair of shoes. If all of your shoes are uncomfortable to walk in, through in some slides to put on as we walk to each location.
Undergarments. Make sure you have the correct type of bra for each outfit. It should be a neutral color and the straps should not be seen.
Any props you would like to incorporate into your session. The most popular props that my seniors bring are sports gear and equipment, pets, instruments, and college t-shirts.
And here’s a quick reminder for a few things you should grab as you head out the door for your session!
– Snacks & Water: The best way to stay fresh throughout your senior session is to stay hydrated and fed! Believe it or not, these sessions can take it out of you and being prepared with some good calories and H2O is never a wrong decision! Bring snacks that you can easily pop into your mouth without have to bite into them and bring a straw with you to drink your water – these tips will SAVE your lipstick!
– Bug Spray: Depending on where your session is taking place, we recommend bringing bug spray with you to keep all the mosquitos and other flying terrors at bay. Make sure it doesn’t dry to a powder, which can accidentally turn your clothes white where you spray it.
– An Extra Outfit: Here’s the deal… things happen. One moment you’re changing for your next outfit, then all of a sudden you hear a big riiiiiiiip at the back of your dress. OH NO. Sometimes things like this happen and it’s always good to have a backup outfit to be able to replace it with.
– Lotion: Want that beautiful sheen to your skin that you see in magazines? That fashion secret is all about the lotion! Moisturized skin photographs much better than dry skin and can make you look fresh and dewy from the inside out!
While these tips are great for sessions year round, there’s a few extra things to think about during the hot Oklahoma summers!
If YOU have a summer senior session coming up, here are things you will want to bring to your session as a summer session emergency kit:
1. lots of ice water: heck, bring a cooler to keep it cool
2. lotion: if you’ve been laying out in the sun, your skin could be more dry than normal
3. bug spray: and apply it between each outfit change
4. umbrella: you’d be surprised to know how much cooler it can keep you
5. paper face towels: blot, blot, and more blotting to keep the sweat away
6. handheld fan: keep it on you while walking to new locations
7. snacks: the sun & heat can drain you so keep your calories up
8. bug bite itch cream: it will stop the swelling and redness for pictures
9. extra deodorant: to keep your outfits dry
