There’s something extra special about morning sessions—especially when they take place on a campus as timeless and peaceful as Oklahoma City University. The light is soft, the walkways are calm, and there’s a kind of quiet excitement in the air that feels just right for celebrating a milestone like college graduation.

I recently had the absolute honor of photographing a senior girl for her OCU graduation pictures, and her story gave me chills in the best way—she’s the first college graduate in her family. Can you imagine the pride and excitement that comes with that? She even included a stole that was commemorating that accomplishment. It was such a meaningful session from start to finish. It was also neat because I got to photograph Nadia’s high school senior pictures back in 2021!

She wore a classic white dress (a perfect choice, by the way—it photographs beautifully against OCU’s architecture and green spaces), and we added her cap and gown throughout the session for those classic graduation shots. Simple, elegant, and full of personality.

We wandered around some of the most recognizable spots on campus, like the star building, capturing everything from joyful smiles to polished, professional headshots. And yes—we had to include with the classic “toss the cap in the air” photo. It’s a tradition for a reason! That joyful, triumphant energy in that single frame? It’s unmatched.
