As an Oklahoma senior photographer, one of my favorite parts of each session is finding ways to make it personal and lately, that’s meant including the sweetest (and furriest) best friends! I’ve had so many seniors bring their dogs this year, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite session trends. Whether you’re planning OKC senior pictures in the city or something more rustic in the countryside, adding your pup into the mix makes your gallery one-of-a-kind. If you’ve ever thought about doing your senior pictures with your dog, here’s why I think you absolutely should.

Senior photos are meant to capture who you are at this point in your life. Your personality, your passions, and the things that make your story unique. And for so many seniors, that story includes their dog. They’ve been there through late-night study sessions, homework marathons, heartbreaks, and cozy weekends. They’re the ones greeting you at the door when you come home from school, and the ones sitting by your side when you’re dreaming about the future.
When you look back at your senior photos years from now, you’ll want to remember what life really looked like in this season, not just what you wore or how your hair was styled. Including your dog in your photos brings that personal, emotional piece to life. It tells the story of your senior year in a way that’s real and heartfelt.
I always tell my seniors that the best photos happen when you’re relaxed, when you forget the camera is there and just have fun. And nothing helps you loosen up faster than having your dog by your side. Whether you’re walking them through a field, holding their leash downtown, or sitting together for cuddles, your dog brings out your natural smiles and laughter in a way that no amount of posing ever could.
Some of my favorite OKC senior pictures have happened when a pup decided to steal the spotlight by jumping into the frame, giving a big slobbery kiss, or just sitting proudly next to their person. It’s those in-between moments that show your true personality and create the kind of photos that make everyone smile.
Plus, for anyone who feels a little nervous about being in front of the camera, your dog acts as the perfect “icebreaker.” You have something to focus on, interact with, and love on and before you know it, you are totally at ease.

If you’re planning to include your dog in your senior pictures with dogs, I’ve got you covered. I’ve learned a few tricks over the years to make sure everything runs smoothly and stays fun for everyone including your pup!
We usually start the session with your dog while they’re fresh and excited. That’s when we capture those joyful, candid shots. The ones with wagging tails, bright smiles, and lots of love. After that, your dog can relax in the car, hang out with a parent, or head home while we finish the rest of your session. That way, you get both the meaningful photos with your dog and the chance to shine on your own.
If you want your dog in the last images of the session in a field at sunset, that is perfectly ok too! You know the temperament of your dog best and if they can hang the whole session, let’s do it!
If we’re shooting in the countryside, there’s plenty of space for your dog to roam, which always makes for some of the best photos. But even in more urban OKC senior pictures, dogs can fit right in. Picture walking through downtown streets, sitting on a park bench, or even posing outside your favorite coffee shop. The goal is always the same: to make the photos feel personal and true to you.
Want your session to go smoothly? Here are a few tips I’ve learned as an Oklahoma senior photographer who’s done quite a few dog-friendly sessions:

At the end of the day, your senior session is about celebrating you. Your story, your season, and the relationships that mean the most. If your story includes puppy kisses, wagging tails, and muddy paws, I say bring it on. These are the details that make your senior year unforgettable, and I love capturing that connection on camera.
If you’ve been dreaming of senior pictures with your dog, let’s make it happen! Whether you want to plan something adventurous in the Oklahoma countryside or a relaxed session in your favorite OKC park, we’ll make sure your photos reflect exactly who you are, furry best friend included.
Send me a message, and let’s get you and your pup’s session on the books! Your pup deserves a starring role in your senior photos, and honestly? You’ll be so glad you made that choice.
