What Real Seniors Say About Their Senior Picture Experience | Oklahoma Senior Photographer

July 26, 2026

One of the questions I hear most from juniors and their moms is, “What is it really like to have senior pictures taken?”

If you’ve never had professional portraits before, it’s completely normal to wonder what to expect. Will you know how to pose? Will professional hair and makeup really make a difference? What if you’re nervous in front of the camera?

As an Oklahoma Senior Photographer, my goal is to make your senior session feel less like a photoshoot and more like an experience you’ll remember long after graduation. Instead of hearing it from me, I thought I’d let three recent seniors share what their experience was really like.

Nicole traveled from Moore, Maci made the drive from Weatherford, and Nellie even came all the way from Kansas for her senior portraits in Oklahoma City. Their stories all look a little different, but they all have one thing in common, they wanted senior pictures that felt like them.

What Is It Really Like to Have Senior Pictures Taken?

The biggest surprise for many seniors isn’t the photos…

It’s how much fun they have.

Nicole, a senior at Moore High School, said:

“It was so fun, and she has great ideas. I loved going around downtown and seeing all the different picture spots.”

For her session, Nicole wore seven different outfits while exploring the Wheeler District, Downtown Oklahoma City, and the Myriad Gardens. Every outfit had its own personality, creating a gallery full of variety that she’ll use throughout her senior year.

Maci, who traveled from Weatherford, described her experience simply:

“My favorite moment was the entire experience!”

That’s exactly what I hope every senior feels.

Your session doesn’t have to be standing awkwardly in front of a camera. You can laugh, explore beautiful locations around Oklahoma City, and create images that genuinely reflect who you are.

Will I Know How to Pose?

This might be the number one concern I hear before every session. The good news? You don’t have to know a single pose before you arrive.

Nicole shared:

“She always knows the best angles and poses for you to do. She is very helpful when the shoot is going on.”

Whether you’re naturally confident in front of the camera or you’ve never had professional photos taken before, I’ll guide you through every pose and every hand placement. By the end of your session you will feel completely natural and confident in front of the camera!

Is Professional Hair and Makeup Worth It?

Every BPP Senior Portrait Experience begins with professional hair and makeup by Jordan. She never wants to make you look different, just enhance your natural features and have your makeup camera ready. You deserve to feel your absolute best!

Nellie, who traveled from Kansas for her senior pictures, shared:

“I was super excited that Jordan would be doing my hair and makeup. I could really tell that Jordan thought a lot about what products she used.”

Maci agreed.

“I loved having my hair and makeup done. It makes the process easy and less stressful.”

Professional hair and makeup photographs beautifully, lasts through multiple outfit changes and the Oklahoma humidity, and lets you relax knowing everything is taken care of before we ever start shooting.

Can I Make My Senior Pictures Feel Personal?

Absolutely.

In fact, I encourage it. Every senior session is designed around your personality.

Nicole loved the colorful energy of the Wheeler District.

Nellie wanted to bring along her biggest supporters, including her dog. She also invited her parents, big sister, and two best friends to spend the day exploring Oklahoma City together.

Her favorite part?

“Brandi was so laid back. I was so excited that she let me bring my friends along.”

Senior pictures should feel like your story, not someone else’s Pinterest board.

Whether that’s a favorite outfit, a meaningful location, your dog, or your best friends cheering you on, those personal touches and memories are often what make your images unforgettable.

What Should I Bring to My Senior Session?

After photographing hundreds of seniors, I always have a few recommendations, but I also asked these girls what they thought future seniors should bring.

Nicole recommends:

  • Comfortable shoes for walking between locations
  • Water ( if you forget, don’t worry! I always pack a cooler of water during the hot months.)
  • Makeup for touch-ups

Nellie’s list included:

  • A mini fan for those warm Oklahoma evenings
  • A hairbrush
  • Friends to cheer you on (and help carry outfits!)

Maci added:

  • Accessories
  • Plenty of sleep the night before
  • And your best smile

Every little detail helps you feel confident and relaxed throughout your session.

What Makes the BPP Senior Portrait Experience Different?

This was one of my favorite questions because each girl’s answer was unique.

Nicole said:

“She is so kind and always listens to what you are looking for.”

Nellie shared:

“She cheers you on like no other. She’s constantly telling you that you look so pretty and encouraging you.”

Maci simply said:

“Brandi’s pictures are a work of art. She makes the process so easy and makes you feel comfortable.”

Those words mean more than they know. Beautiful photos are important, but I want every senior to leave feeling confident and beautiful just the way they are.

The Senior Team Experience Continues the Fun

Nicole and Maci are both members of the BPP Senior Team, which means their individual senior session was just the beginning. Throughout senior year, they’ll participate in exclusive themed photoshoots and make friendships with girls from other schools.

As Taylor, one of last year’s Senior Team members, shared:

“This experience has given me memories, pictures, and connections that I will always remember.”

For girls who want even more than a traditional senior session, the Senior Team is such a special way to celebrate every season of senior year.
